Monthly volume is the total gross value of all payment transactions processed through your app-airwallex account within a calendar month (UTC). This includes successful card charges, bank transfers, and wallet payouts — but excludes refunds, chargebacks, and failed transactions. Volume resets to zero at 00:00 UTC on the first day of each month. If your volume crosses a plan threshold mid-month, you will be notified by email and can choose to upgrade; the higher rate applies only to transactions processed after the upgrade takes effect.

Yes. You can upgrade your plan at any time from the dashboard and the new limits and features become active immediately. Billing for the upgraded plan is prorated from the date of the change. Downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing cycle — you retain your current plan's features and limits until then. If you downgrade to a tier whose monthly volume cap you have already exceeded in the current month, processing continues uninterrupted; you will be billed at your current plan's overage rate until the cycle ends.

No. FX conversion fees are separate from your subscription plan fee. All plans include access to real-time interbank exchange rates via the API, but a conversion markup is applied to each cross-currency transaction. The markup is 0.5{4e616d06cd7ac93ae7f2df4a23377f1547a43e89695cecc1aace5f9d41aba889} on the Growth and Scale plans, and is negotiated individually on the Enterprise plan — often lower for high-volume accounts. There are no hidden spreads or tiered FX markups; the rate you see in the API response is the rate applied to your transaction. You can lock in a rate for up to 72 hours using our FX Forward endpoint.

An API key is any credential pair (key ID + secret) generated under your account, regardless of environment. Sandbox keys and production keys both count toward your plan's key limit. Keys scoped to sub-accounts or projects (if your plan supports them) each count as one key. Rotating a key — that is, generating a replacement and revoking the old one — does not increase your count once the old key is deleted. Revoked keys are removed from the count within 60 seconds. On the Starter plan you may hold up to 3 active keys; Growth allows 15; Scale allows 50; Enterprise is unlimited.

The Starter plan is permanently free with no trial period required — you can use it indefinitely within its limits. For Growth and Scale plans, we offer a 14-day trial with full access to all plan features, no credit card required to start. At the end of 14 days, you either enter your payment details to continue or you are automatically moved to the Starter plan; you will not be charged without explicit confirmation. Trial accounts have the same API rate limits and volume caps as the paid tier being trialled, so your benchmarks are realistic. Enterprise trials are available by arrangement — contact our sales team.

A solutions engineer will respond within one business day. Enterprise quotes are fully bespoke: pricing is based on volume, feature scope, dedicated infrastructure needs, and SLA tier. There is no standard Enterprise price list because each contract is negotiated to reflect actual usage. We do not require a minimum contract length, though discounts are available for 12- and 24-month commitments.
